InsituSIM Modelling Support
Background on InsituSIM
InsituSIM is a cloud-based simulation software that implements an efficient methodology to perform techno-economic analyses of process options in a SAGD central processing facility. InsituSIM was developed by Process Ecology for Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA). The software can be used to evaluate Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions reduction as well as alternative water treatment technologies and it can be used to simulate multiple SAGD central processing facilities configurations.
Examples of software features include:
- Water treatment technologies (Membrane, Disposal Water Treatment, and Ion Exchange blocks)
- Risk-based analysis via Monte Carlo simulation
- Key Performance Indicators (KPI) Manager
- Improved models for Boilers and Heat Recovery Steam Generators
- Many other usability enhancements and improvements

Overview of InsituSIM Modelling Support provided by InnoTech Alberta
InnoTech Alberta is partnering with Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) and Process Ecology to offer additional support for innovators looking to test their technologies on InsituSIM. Staff at InnoTech Alberta can work with innovators to model their process ideas within the InsituSIM platform to evaluate how the facility reacts. This service will save users time learning the tool themselves.
Note that technical support for users encountering issues within InsituSIM is still provided by Process Ecology and is accessed through the “contact” link on the InsituSIM website (www.insituSIM.com).
