The Fermentation Plant houses 20 fermenters ranging from 20L to 15,000L, along with associated downstream processing equipment. The facility is used to develop, optimize and scale biological processes, provide toll processing services and assist customers in the deployment, demonstration, and commercialization of novel technology.

The fermentation team has the experience and a proven track record of practical research and operation. This experience is very beneficial for process development within the area of commercial scale fermentation and production techniques.

Fermentation Science

We are experienced with more than 50 different species of microorganisms as well as various production methods across scales ranging from shake flasks to 15,000 L fermenters. We have developed processes for many organisms and expression systems, both wild and recombinant, including;

  • Bacteria – E-Coli, Streptomyces
  • Yeast – Pichia, Saccharomyces
  • Heterotrophic Algae
  • Fungi
  • High cell density and fed batch fermentations:
    • bacteria (E-Coli, Streptomyces)
    • yeast (Pichia, Saccharomyces)
    • heterotrophic algae
    • fungi
