Colin Twitchell has over 26 years of experience in environmental science and biodiversity monitoring roles. Since the beginning of his career, he has been passionate about opportunities to build programs and develop more effective monitoring strategies for clients from methods development to boots-on-the-ground fieldwork.
Colin manages the Biodiversity Monitoring team within the Environmental Impacts division. This team is responsible for the testing and implementation of field monitoring protocols and programs across the province. Colin also works as the Director of the Monitoring Center for the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI). In this role, he is responsible for managing the program’s large-scale field data collection activities. ABMI is a not-for-profit environmental monitoring program that tracks changes in Alberta’s wildlife and their habitats. InnoTech Alberta is a founding member and an important delivery partner. The program provides ongoing, relevant, scientifically credible information on Alberta’s living resources.
For Colin, the most rewarding part of his work with InnoTech Alberta and ABMI is the opportunity to deliver large-scale field programs with complex logistics, that inform the public on the status and changes in biodiversity across the province.
When Colin isn’t working, he loves to be outdoors with his family. As the father of 3 boys, Colin is also kept busy as a coach and volunteer for minor sports.
