Each February, MARIOS brings mine operators together for an in person workshop focused on real world challenges in vehicle maintenance and operations. This year’s workshop featured a targeted training session held in collaboration with JPI that focused on fatigue prediction and crack prevention in truck frames.
The workshop also identified a promising new MARIOS project area: evaluating inspection technologies for near and in field applications.
Looking for more education sessions? MARIOS Lunch and Learns return in April with a presentation from SGS Canada on failure analysis of mining equipment.
Project focus
MARIOS researcher Yuan Li is leading an investigation into the effects of water chemistry, dissolved oxygen, flow regime, and microbial activity on process (recycled) water system corrosion.
The project scope ranges from the qualification of piping materials, pilot test of pipeline rehabilitation technologies, laboratory evaluation of protective coatings, and ongoing field trials at Suncor, with the goal of identifying measures to help manage this corrosion issue.
Member focus
The March/April member focus highlights Trimay Wear Plate Ltd., an Edmonton-based organization delivering engineered wear solutions and services that extend equipment component life, improve safety, and optimize plant performance. The team partners with clients to develop practical, application-driven solutions tailored to real operating conditions. From the supply of wear plate, wear pipe, and custom components to technical consulting and failure analysis, Trimay helps operations reduce maintenance costs, increase uptime, and achieve long-term reliability in the most demanding environments.
