Supporting the manufacturing sector to increase productivity and quality

The Advanced Manufacturing and Fabrication Initiative (AMFI) program supports the manufacturing sector by de-risking the adoption of new technologies and providing access to technical expertise and training. The program has strengthened the manufacturing sector by enabling process efficiencies, capital investments and job retention/creation.

Program Focus Areas

The manufacturing sector faces several challenges in the drive to become more competitive, and to diversify into new geographic markets and sectors. These include:

  • Lack of exposure to new manufacturing and materials technologies, and knowledge of how they fit a company’s needs.
  • Hesitancy in the adoption of new technologies.
  • Need to improve efficiencies and quality.
  • Limited access to training and expert advice
  • Job retention and growth

Established in 2014, the AMFI Program supports the manufacturing sector through the following activities:

  • Industrial workshops on new technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with new equipment and processes.
  • Promoting the transfer of new manufacturing technologies into Alberta.
  • One-on-one company engagements to assess needs and provide advice on issues, solutions, and investments.
  • Training seminars on advanced manufacturing and materials.

The scope of the AMFI program includes advanced manufacturing (inc. additive manufacturing), digital technologies, materials (inc. bio-industrial), sensors, NDT and welding.
