CO2 Geological Storage

Stefan’s expertise is in fluid flow in porous media; hydrogeology and geothermics of sedimentary basins; deep disposal of waste water, acid gas and CO2 in geological media; reservoir and aquifer characterization; and analysis and modeling of fluid flow, heat transfer and mass transport processes in porous media and geological environments. In the last 25 years Stefan has focused his research and activities on the topic of CO2 geological storage (CCS), mainly in areas of: (1) evaluation of suitability and capacity of potential geological sinks for CO2 sequestration (oil and gas reservoirs, coal and salt beds, and deep saline aquifers), (2) site selection and characterization, (3) source-sink matching, and (4) regulatory framework.
