Ph.D. in Ecology | University of Alberta
M.Sc in Environmental Sciences | University of British Columbia

Shannon has always been passionate about the environment and has embraced the intersection between science and protecting natural ecosystems through policy. As a Senior Researcher for InnoTech Alberta and the Co-Director of the Science Centre for the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI) her primary responsibility is to provide leadership for the scientific aspects of the ABMI. Shannon leads a team of ecologists and statisticians who are dedicated to interpreting biodiversity data to support better environmental management.

She enjoys working with a variety of clients and partners to maximize the value and impact achieved with ABMI’s data while maintaining the scientific integrity of the organization’s work. Shannon is naturally innovative and collaborative, and she thrives when she is navigating the complex relationships among and between people and organizations, something she gets to do quite a bit of in her position.

Her previous experience includes her role as an ecologist at ABMI, on the team she now leads, and her time as Biodiversity Specialist at Alberta Environment and Parks. Shannon’s background as grassland and global change ecologist has built up her expertise in biodiversity science and monitoring and makes her a great fit for the role she now holds with InnoTech Alberta.

Shannon is a mom of two and loves spending time with her family. During her leisure time, she likes to take photographs, read fiction, and engage in outdoor activities such as hiking and stand-up paddleboarding.
