Dr. Eric Ruan

Professional Bio

Ph.D. in Analytic Chemistry | University of Hong Kong – Hong Kong  

Dr. Eric Ruan is the supervisor of the Trace Organics, Air and Gas Analysis group and has been with InnoTech Alberta since 2021. He manages the intake of projects, oversees research, and ensures that clients receive high-quality results. He has more than 20 years of experience in the development of analytical methods, especially technologies related to Mass Spectrometry and applications for environmental, food, and biological samples. He has been published in many peer-reviewed publications and holds 7 patents (including 1 US Patent). Before joining InnoTech, he held positions as Assistant Professor at Hong Kong Baptist University Hong Kong and then as Professor at Dongguan University of Technology, Guangdong, China.

Dr. Ruan was attracted to working at InnoTech Alberta due to its history, the reputation of its researchers, world-class facilities, and state-of-the-art equipment. His role is to develop methods, supervise for high-quality results and assist in troubleshooting in response to new regulatory and business requirements. Dr. Ruan also leads projects to update standard operational procedures (SOPs), or to develop and validate new methods for internal and external clients with special requirements, along with ensuring these methods are documented. Moreover, he helps our industry partners transform waste into value-added products, and further build sustainable agriculture and environment.
