SUMMARY:Pads in Peatland Decision Framework and Support Tools (DST)
DESCRIPTION:InnoTech Alberta\, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (EPA)\, Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and the Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada (PTAC) are pleased to invite you to an upcoming workshop focused on the Decision Framework and Support Tools (DST) to guide recommendations regarding the reclamation of padded wellsites in peatlands. \nAs part of a pilot initiated by EPA\, operators have been able to apply to the AER for approval to reclaim well pads to upland land use rather than peatland. This pilot aims to streamline the reclamation certification process\, as approvals for changes in land use are currently the responsibility of Forestry and Parks (FP). \nThe workshop will bring together stakeholders from industry\, EPA\, AER\, and FP to: \n\nShare experiences using the DST\,\nDiscuss potential improvements to the DST\,\nInform the decision on a policy change that would formally allow AER\, guided by the DST\, to approve land use changes for padded wellsites in peatlands\,\nExplore the potential for extending use of the DST to wellsites in caribou zones.\n\n  \n📅 Date & Time: Monday\, September 22\, 2025 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (MDT)\n📍 Location: 250 Karl Clark Road\, Edmonton\, AB or online \nLearn more about InnoTech Alberta’s work in Decision Framework and Support Tools (DST) for Accessing Padded Wellsites and Access Roads on Public Land. \nSupporting Information: Please note that there will be no review of the Decision Framework and Support Tools at the Workshop; participants are expected to be familiar with the concept and use of the DST. To prepare for the Workshop\, see the following links to the Report\, the DST Calculator\, the 2024 DST Training Session video and the EPA Directive. \nWe look forward to your contributions and insights. If you have any questions\, don’t hesitate to reach out. We will distribute the final workshop agenda a week prior to the event. \nIf you are unable to attend but have insights you’d like to share please e-mail stefan.schreiber@innotechalberta.ca by September 15th. \n  \nThis is not a webinar\, expect active participation and breakout discussions. We encourage in-person attendance for deeper engagement. \n  \n🔗 Registration is required:\n• In-person: https://pads_in_peatlands_workshop.eventbrite.ca\n• Online: https://pads_in_peatlands_workshop_online.eventbrite.ca \n
