Overview

The Fuels and Lubricants team performs analysis of crude and refined hydrocarbon products to determine chemical and physical composition and evaluate conformity to international standards.

The Fuels and Lubricants team operates under the Oil and Gas sector.

Fuels & Lubricants is an InnoTech full service laboratory.  Research capabilities cover a full range of petroleum product characterizations; from LPGs to refined products, to crude oil assays, to bitumens. The laboratory maintains ISO 17025 accreditation (Accredited Laboratory No. 41) through the Standards Council of Canada.

InnoTech's work with fuels and lubricants is nationally recognized and has grown to offer a diverse range of services to the oil and gas and renewable fuels industries. InnoTech offers:

  • Specialized characterization services

  • An independent, unbiased research partner to evaluate new equipment and products

A full list of the tests we offer is available on our Tests Listing page.

Services

  • Upstream (unrefined) and downstream (refined) analyses: InnoTech offers product evaluation and quality assessment of fuels, lubricants and crude oils. Petroleum analyses meets Canadian, American and international specifications
  • Renewable fuels: InnoTech helps biodiesel producers select which oils will work best for biodiesel, and also analyze the final product.
  • Proficiency testing through the International Quality Assurance Exchange Program: This proficiency testing program gives participants the opportunity to evaluate and assess personnel, equipment and methods, and is a critical step in qualifying for accreditation.
  • Method and specification development: InnoTech offers leading edge technology through its work in developing methods and specifications for upstream, downstream and renewable fuel characterization. These new methods help customers lower costs and improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Industry product characteristics surveys and database: This program helps customers understand the trends in the industry. While most of InnoTech's surveys focus on downstream products, it has also surveyed biodiesel and will soon be doing a survey on bitumen.
